Geothermal Energy Research & Development Co., Ltd. was established in November 1975 under the auspices of the former Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). It began as a joint venture launched by geothermal development-related private enterprises in Japan with the aims of promoting research and development of geothermal energy as part of the Sunshine Program that MITI initiated in 1974 with the goal of cultivating and spreading technical consulting service by introducing foreign cutting-edge geothermal technologies.
Although the Program was finished, we continue using the technology and know-how obtained through research and development for introducing and fostering the use of cutting-edge technologies from overseas.
At the present time, we are involved in national projects such as EGS technology development using supercritical carbon dioxide and supercritical geothermal power generation technologies with a view towards carbon neutrality in 2050. We are working on basic research aiming to spread newly developed technologies and advance geothermal power generation. We are also actively working on the application of geothermal technologies in various fields, such as oil and gas development, carbon capture and storage, geological disposal of radioactive waste, seafloor crustal structure survey, methane hydrate development, civil engineering, and disaster prevention.
With the recent trend in increasing human economic and social activities, global warming and other environmental problems have become apparent. Geothermal energy is expected to be developed and promoted as an environmentally friendly clean renewable energy. Under these circumstances, our company will continue to make further efforts to develop and disseminate technologies that can contribute to the development of other fields, including geothermal power generation. We sincerely ask for your continued guidance and assistance.
